China’s cyber units have repeatedly targeted government systems, defense contractors, research universities, and critical infrastructure operators. These operations aim to obtain sensitive intellectual property, personnel data, and defense-related technologies

On September 4th 2025, a U.S. Department of Statement employee was sentenced to 4 years in prison for conspiring to collect and transmit national defense information to the People’s Republic of China. Michael Schema, a Top Secret clearance holder sold classified information to the Chinese government that were classified as SECRET.

On July 2025 the U.S Attorney’s office in Northern California and the Counterintelligence and Export Control Section had Cadence Design Systems Inc to plead guilty to selling EDA hardware, software and semiconductor design intellectual property (IP) technology to the National University of Defense Technology (NUDT) in Chinad under the PRC’s Central Military Commission. Cadence agreed to pay $95 million dollars in civil penalties.
